The Challenge Experience
Life Skills Challenge

Life Skills Workshops
gt.kids come together for engaging workshops around core life skills, such as time management, study habits, and goal setting. This is not your typical online class! Workshops focus on engaging group activities to help students think through and apply new skills in a fun and engaging format.

1:1 Coaching
Students meet with one of our Gifted & Talented coaches during the Challenge. Coaches provide personal guidance and support as students explore ambitions and goals, and put those goals into action with learning plans.

Personal Exercises
Exercises help students put new skills into practice during the Challenge. Some of our personal exercises include setting goals, creating a learning plan for a new skill or topic, creating a time budget for your week, or evaluating the effectiveness of a study session.

Games & Prizes
Our goal is to make developing new skills equally as fun and exciting as playing Minecraft or browsing TikTok! We do that by layering in games, scavenger hunts, and prizes to make the program a wildly fun and exciting learning experience.

Why Life Skills?
Gifted & Talented students are naturally equipped to excel, but often struggle to reach high goals because of challenges around habits and skills, such as a lack of clear goals, poor study habits, feeling overwhelmed by schedules, etc.
gt.school's Life Skills Challenge is a 2-week program, led by our coaches, in which students develop and hone 5 core life skills that impart the mindset, skills, and habits necessary to build incredible potential.

Join the Tribe
During the Life Skills Challenge (and after if students continue at gt.school), kids connect and engage around topics like chess, baking, entrepreneurship, Minecraft, etc. in our Discord community. With weekly events led by our coaches, students learn from and inspire each other, and find a tribe as unique and creative as them.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the time commitment?
We expect students to commit 5-6 hours per week for the Life Skills Challenge (or 10-12 hours in total). We cover 5 skills during the program, and expect students to spend about 2 hours on each skill (1 hour during a workshop, and 1 hour on personal exercises).
How is this different from gt.school's other programs?
gt.school is a year-round online afterschool program designed to accelerate and support Gifted & Talented students. The Life Skills Challenge serves as a great way to get to know gt.school and our curriculum. It is a standalone 2-week program, or is a great introduction for students interested in joining gt.school's year-round program.
What are the workshops like?
Our workshops focus on imparting skills mainly through group activities. These are not passive lectures! We typically introduce students to the skill we are covering and then have them immediately start discussing, applying and engaging with that topic. Students also have chances to engage in a series of challenges during the workshops in which they can earn cash rewards! Workshops are held on Zoom, and are 45 minutes to 1 hour. They are led by our coaches and include other students in the course.
What is the schedule?
Our workshops are currently held on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. We currently offer 2 times - 4 pm and 8 pm CST. That is 5 pm and 9 pm EST and 2 pm and 6 pm PST. If these times do not work for you, please let us know. We would love to know what times work best for you. The rest of the program is independent work.
