GT School: A New Option for Gifted Kids in Texas

Has your gifted child’s enthusiasm for learning lessened over time?

Traditional schools move students through the same material at the same speed, regardless of each student’s ability or interest. For gifted and talented students, that can lead to a variety of problems:

  • Boredom from waiting for their classmates to catch up to a level they find interesting.
  • Perfectionism from feeling like a failure if they don’t “get it right” on the first try, so they start avoiding anything that really challenges them.
  • Missed opportunities to dive deeper into areas of strength and curiosity.
  • Emotional fatigue from spending six to seven hours a day without true intellectual stimulation.
  • Little time left for creativity, passion projects, or real-world skill development.
  • Less socialization as schoolmates don’t know how to relate or the school tries to “help” by pushing the child into a separate gifted class or schedule.

GT School stands out among the best schools for gifted students in Texas because of the unique power of our 2 Hour Learning model

We use artificial technology to create personalized learning plans that ensure that our classes are in the nation’s top 1% by eighth grade. In fact, our students consistently perform three to five years above grade level and score 1350+ on their SAT tests by eighth grade. And they achieve this with only two to three hours of core academics a day!

In addition, GT School cultivates students’ love of learning, helps them gain a growth mindset, gives them a sense of community, and unlocks their true potential.

Personalized Learning: A Smarter Approach

Your first question most likely is: How does AI work in K-8 education?

Educational research has found that personalized learning is the most effective form of instruction. This instructional approach was previously too expensive for most of us, but AI advances now allow educators to meld their pedagogical expertise with the technology’s speed and flexibility, making personalized learning a feasible option.

Every morning, our students work on math, reading, language, science, social studies, and writing using AI and adaptive learning apps that personalize learning by adjusting the course material according to each student’s needs.

Instead of being stuck with a “one-size-fits-all” curriculum as in traditional schools, GT School students learn at the pace that best suits them. The AI and platforms assess and track each student’s strengths and growth areas to build a daily learning path just for them. Each child tracks their work on a personal “Dash” online dashboard that also helps them set daily goals and check whether they have met those goals.

In addition, the technology provides real-time feedback on how well each student is doing with a subject and allows that child to advance to more challenging material whenever they’re ready – instead of waiting for the rest of the class like they would in a traditional classroom. One of our seventh graders is working on 12th grade reading. Another student would be in fourth grade at a standard school but works on eighth grade reading at GT School.

As a result of this mastery-based approach, GT School students complete their academic work two to five times faster than students in traditional classrooms.

This doesn’t mean that students are only interacting with algorithms. Each student receives one-on-one emotional support and encouragement from educators who graduated from top institutions such as UCLA, Northwestern, and Queens University in Canada.

As gifted scholars themselves, these educators are perfectly positioned for their roles as GT teachers, that help students overcome any tendencies toward perfectionism and develop a growth mindset.

Additionally, students constantly motivate each other. Our younger students are only required to do a two-hour block of academic learning while older students spend closer to three hours on academic work. However, as the younger students see their older schoolmates putting in more time, they often ask to have a little more time as well.  Additionally, our older students repeatedly check in on the younger students to see how they’re progressing in their academics and to offer their own strategies to help.

Enrichment and Life Skills in the Afternoon

Since students complete their core academics in the morning, they have four hours in the afternoon to expand their learning beyond what’s taught during a traditional school day.

Students have a say in how they spend their afternoon, and each activity is designed to develop valuable life skills, often through an academic medium. Some examples of how our students spend their afternoons include:

  • Developing public speaking in speech and debate competitions (one GT School team participating in Global AI Debates finished first in the United States and second in the world while the other team finished fifth in the world).
  • Sharpening critical thinking through chess workshops.
  • Strengthening teamwork and feedback skills through Quiz Bowl workshops and competitions.
  • Exploring persistence  during piano and other musical workshops.
  • Learning pattern recognition through ancient Chinese board games and the periodic table.
  • Becoming multilingual with the help of online language apps.
  • Building coding and problem-solving skills by participating in robotics, self-driving car, and programming projects
  • Building social skills and community through multi-age soccer games and afternoon “shout outs.”

Benefits for Gifted and Talented Students

Our afternoon component may not be what most people imagine when they’re imagining the best schools for gifted students in Texas. But the GT School model helps students achieve excellence without burning out by providing:

  • Acceleration with balance: Students advance quickly without boredom or pressure to be perfect.
  • Time for exploration: They have afternoons to develop talents, explore interests, and practice leadership.
  • Social and emotional growth: One-on-one mentorships, collaborative workshops, and the opportunity to build a community with other gifted children help students connect, empathize, and thrive.

Happy Students and Families

Parents love that their kids come home and spend quality time with the family instead of doing homework. But what really matters to them (and to us) is how much gifted students thrive at GT School. At the end of every term, 100% of our students say they love being at GT School!

We provide gifted and talented kids opportunities and challenges they’ve never been given before. In addition, we ignite their love for school and lifelong learning.

That’s why we’re one of the best schools for gifted students in Texas!
